“Why should our church support our local Association?”
Why Support NCAM
This is one of the questions we most often hear at the Associational level. This brief explanation is an effort to answer that question.
In 1976, the Etowah, Hightower and Roswell Baptist Associations entered into a cooperative agreement with the Georgia Baptist Convention, thus creating the North Central Area Missions Program. In 2007, the Lanier Baptist Association, comprised of churches in Forsyth and Dawson counties, was formed and added to the program. In 2010, NCAM was approached by the North Arnold Mill Baptist Church with a desire to disband and sell their facility to the four associations for a below market price. Purchase was made by using new church start funds so the facility could be used to begin new congregations, train beleivers, reach the lost, and be used by the staff of NCAM as office space.
North Central Area Missions exists to serve and assist the churches of the Etowah, Hightower, Lanier and Roswell Baptist Associations (North Fulton, Cherokee, Forsyth, Dawson, Gwinnett and Pickens Counties) in fulfilling their divine calling as expressed in Scripture in Matthew 28:18-20 and Acts 1:8.
The financial contributions of member churches are prayerfully and conscientiously administered to advance our Lord’s Kingdom at home and around the world. By sharing personnel and office expenses, each association is able to have the services of a full-time professional staff which could not otherwise be afforded. We are a completely self-governing and autonomous body that looks to the duly elected representatives from our member churches to make all the decisions regarding the mission and ministry of the association. While we are in full cooperation with the Southern Baptist Convention in its national, state and local expressions, we are not controlled by any outside organization. The NCAM looks to our churches to decide the direction and focus of our ministry.
The NCAM depends 100% on the regular and faithful financial support from our churches to carry on its multiple ministries. We receive no funds from the Cooperative Program gifts of member churches. We encourage our churches to give each month a percentage (3% minimum is recommended - some give up to 7%) of their undesignated receipts. In this manner the association is increasingly blessed as the church is financially blessed.
We are grateful for any and all financial support from our churches. Through financial support churches join hands in ministering to a hurting world and proclaiming the Good News of the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
